Psychedelic Mushroom F.A.Qs

Today, we experience unprecedented levels of stress.

Our bodies and minds are expected to do jobs that humans have never done before.

We feel isolated, yet never alone.

Mushroom medicine is the medicine of our time – it helps us remember our connection to nature, reconnect to our purpose, and re-vision how to get there.

Mushroom Micro-Dosing

u

What does "psychedelic" actually mean?

The term ‘psychedelic’ is derived from the Greek words psyche– “soul or mind” and delos– “to manifest or bring to light.”

Essentially, it translates as “to manifest the soul”.

In my opinion, it’s a perfect description that illustrates how these plants were revered from the beginning.

u

What is mushroom micro dosing?

Microdosing involves consuming small, sub-hallucinogenic doses of psychedelic mushrooms, aiming to enhance mental clarity, creativity, and emotional balance.

Microdosing can be ideal for people seeking to improve their quality of life without the intense experience of a full psychedelic trip.

It’s also a great option after a journey (or macro dose) that helps reconnect you to your experience during that journey.

u

How much should I microdose?

A microdose typically ranges from 0.1 to 0.3 grams of dried psychedelic mushrooms.

The exact amount varies depending on the individual’s body weight, tolerance, and the potency of the mushrooms.

Finding the right dose usually requires some experimentation, which we will discuss in detail during your initial consultation.

I may also recommend working with additional mushrooms, such as Lion’s Mane, or other herbs that can greatly impact your microdose program’s effectiveness.

u

How does a micro dose consultations work?

This initial consultation is for new clients to get a deep understanding of mushrooms and how they can be helpful.

We discuss:

  • what kind of mushrooms are helpful for you right now,
  • in-depth, safe dosing strategies,
  • any questions or uncertainties you have.

The consultation comes with a personalized, complimentary micro-dosing kit.

u

Why not just buy a psychedelic mushroom-infused chocolate bar online?

I am finding that many new clients are coming to me with past negative, ineffective, or downright dangerous experiences using these types of products.

Here are just a few reasons to be skeptical of commercially available psychedelic mushroom products:

  1. You usually don’t know where your mushrooms came from, the experience level/background of the grower, or whether the manufacturing process reflects a true understanding of human physiology.
  2. It’s difficult to verify the dose actually included in a commercial product (what they say on the packaging isn’t necessarily true).
  3. Micro dosing is individual; there is no one, standard “micro dose” that works for everyone.
  4. Many chocolate bars, gummies, etc include additional herbs, vitamins, and supplements that may or may not be a good idea for you.
  5. These products can make any claims they want. For example, many products claim to “produce a similar effect to THC” – psilocybin and THC have totally different effects in the body. Be wary of marketing statements that are not backed up by science or regulated in any way.

There may be certain companies with truly ethical and scientifically-backed manufacturing processes, but they are few and far between.

When you work with me, you work with mushrooms grown by me, so you know exactly how they’re grown, the milligrams in each dose, and we work to find the optimal dose for your unique physiology.

u

What are the potential benefits of microdosing?

People experience various benefits from microdosing, like increased energy, enhanced creativity, elevated mood, and relating more lovingly with others.

Personally, I lose the “unhelpful downer” that often lives in the back of my mind and tells me I’m not good enough.

Mushrooms are allies that help us move towards a new direction in life. They help forge new paths in our nervous system and life. This looks different for everyone.

u

Can mushroom micro dosing provide relief from depression and anxiety?

Anecdotal evidence strongly suggests that microdosing can offer relief from symptoms of depression and anxiety, but scientific research is still in the early stages. Most people find a more uplifted sense of well-being.

Often, a journey (or macro dose) experience is needed to address root issues. Then microdosing can be used to reconnect with that experience as needed.

However, many find benefits from micro dosing only.

u

Can I microdose and still go to work?

Microdosing is designed not to impair normal functioning, making it possible to work and perform daily activities. People aim for improved focus and creativity without noticeable psychoactive effects. However, it’s advisable to first experiment during a time when work or critical tasks are not required to gauge individual response. Find your dose first.

u

What potential risks are associated with microdosing?

While considered relatively safe, some risks include potential psychological discomfort (most likely related to not finding your accurate dose) and legal issues.

While Colorado has decriminalized the possession and personal use of psilocybin mushrooms, it remains illegal under federal law.

People in Colorado should seek out local regulations and practice discretion, keeping in mind that selling and distributing psilocybin still faces legal penalties.

I’ve taken the measures I feel comfortable with to provide this important service to my community.

As my site disclaimer says “You are responsible for you.” Please be aware of the regulations, and decide what you feel comfortable with.

Mushroom micro and macro-dosing are also not recommended for individuals with a history of psychosis or severe mental health problems.

u

Is microdosing right for everyone?

I’ve been a mushroom micro and macro dose guide for clients of every gender, age, background, profession, and religion. All are welcome.

Still, microdosing is not suitable for everyone, particularly those with a history of mental health disorders or those on certain medications, as they have constituents that act as vasoconstrictors.

It should always involve careful consideration, research, and ideally, discussion with a healthcare provider to mitigate potential risks.

Roughly half of my clients opt for a custom herbal tea blend to support the nervous system before jumping into this stronger medicine.

u

What if I have questions or need more support after our consultation?

Mushroom Journeys (or Macro-Dose)

u

What is a macro dose of mushrooms?

A macro dosage varies for everyone, but it’s generally more than 3 grams of psychedelic mushroom.

u

Do I need a guide during my journey?

No. Many people take macro doses of mushrooms without a guide. But I don’t recommend it.

Mushroom journeys can be LIFE CHANGING.

If you have heard about people having a “bad trip,” they were most likely not working with a guide.

Mushrooms are medicine. They should always be taken with intention and respect. They are not multivitamins that can be taken casually.

During a trip, the mushrooms are changing how you look at and respond to the world moving forward.

You will lose your sense of time and space; this can be unsettling and cause anxiety without a guide there to assist with interruptions or unexpected events.

Traditionally, mushroom medicine is always taken with the support of a guide, in a safe ceremonial space, with a specific protocol.

Of the 116 different species of mushrooms taken ceremonially by different cultures around the world, each tradition uses experienced practitioners to support their community’s healing.

u

How long are mushroom retreat experiences?

The retreat is between 6 hours and up to a 3-day program based on the experience and group size you are looking to book. This is best discussed over the phone or in person as a consult.

Preparation, delicious foods and integration afterwords are important and will be discussed during the consult.

u

What is included in a macrodose journey?

We will have a pre-intention consultation before the “journey day.” I will then be with you on the day for the entire experience for support. A delicious whole foods snack will be provided at the end of the experience.

u

Does my macro dose experience have to be individual, or can a partner or friend join me?

You may book an individual journey or a group journey. Multi-day group retreats are also available.

Contact me about scheduling and group rates.

u

Will we meet before my macro dose experience?

Prior to your journey, we have an initial consultation. We address what you are looking for from your experience.

You will also have preparatory homework and thought experiments before (and after) your journey. We will also discuss the details of the environment and structure of your experience, and provide ample time to address any of your questions or concerns.

u

How do we start my mushroom journey?

On the scheduled day of your journey, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (this is not a time to worry about appearance).

I provide the mushroom as a powder in a truffle or as a special green tea and chocolate mixture I create just for these experiences. I recommend using your favorite mug to start the ceremony. You will have a water bottle to keep hydrated the rest of the experience.

I may also offer additional herbal support before, during, and after the journey as needed. This can be herbal teas, powders or tinctures.

u

Where will my mushroom journey take place?

The journey takes place in your home. I will have all the supplies needed. I recommend having your favorite cup, a comforting blanket, and very comfortable clothes for the experience.

I just purchased land and will be building a retreat center. This will allow for journeys outside your home on 8 acres of private space that backs up to a national forest near a river.

Stay tuned 🙂

u

How long does a macrodose journey last?

The effects typically last between 4 to 6 hours, with possible after effects. The duration can vary based on the dose and your metabolism.

I like to start early in the day. This way you can be coming out from under the medicine by lunchtime. This also allows you ample time to integrate your experience before resuming daily activities and responsibilities.

u

What can I expect to feel during a macrodose experience?

A macro dose can induce significant visual and auditory hallucinations, emotional epiphanies, and profound changes in perception. The experience can be overwhelmingly positive or challenging, often depending on the user’s mindset and environment.

During your trip, you lose track of time and space, but you are aware of your behaviors and actions. You know right and wrong in this state. Mushrooms do not have the same chemicals that completely dissolve the ego like other psychoactive plants used in ceremony.

As your guide, I create a very intentional, safe environment to keep your experience in a flow state.

I prefer to break up the journey into 3 phases, which last about 5 hours in total, and reflect the pattern most people seem to follow on their journeys.

u

Am I sober as your guide during the mushroom journey?

While some practitioners do take mushrooms along with you, I prefer to remain fully present and choose not to take mushrooms during a guided journey.

You can feel confident that I can take care of any unexpected interruptions.

u

What does the first phase look and feel like?

The first phase of your journey includes guided meditations and curated music.

You will be sitting or lying down with an eye pillow to support visuals. Mushroom journeys are big work for your brain and body!

Some people get cold during this phase. I recommend having your favorite blanket. The cold eventually passes.

I recommend enjoying and staying curious about the visuals you experience.

If you experience any anxiety, it may come at this stage. We like to control things as humans and letting go is hard.

But most people do not experience anxiety when working with a guide. It’s my job to a create a judgment-free, safe space. I only bring it up so you know it’s a possibility.

Light breathwork has proven to assist with anxiety, and I can guide you back into being curious about the experience and moving through your emotions.

Remember – you’re not “losing your mind.” You’re bringing your soul to light.

u

What does the second phase look and feel like?

You may start to feel like it’s time to get up and move around to a different spot or stretch your legs. The music changes a bit to support this next phase.

You’re still “under” but may feel like looking “out” at the world.

You start integrating all the work from the first phase into what you can sense and feel “in the now”

You may feel very “present” in the moment, and may not have a strong sense of time.

This is what I call a much-needed break from everyday life! We are so time-dependent in today’s world. Taking some time to just “be” is a delight!

If possible, I like to go outside to lay on the ground during this phase.

This might be a time to laugh or cry at all the beauty in the world.

Some see representations of their religious or spiritual beliefs. Others connect with loved ones. It’s all part of the life-changing experience.

I have a journal for you where I take any notes you might want to remember during this time.

u

What does the third phase look and feel like?

In this final phase, you start to come back to time and space, with a very real sense of connection and clarity.

I will have your journal prepared for you to make notes in, as you’ll be ready and able to write by now.

This is a precious time of reflection. I will have some light food and tea to keep you hydrated. Most people find simple fruits and proteins to be delicious right after the journey. What you consume on this day is important. Make it nourishing.

The whole experience is done in 5ish hours and will be exhausting to your mind and body (I think it’s a built-in mechanism against addiction to the experience). It’s not something you want to do all the time.

Keep the rest of your day empty. No work or phone calls if possible!

u

How will I feel after my mushroom journey?

The next day, you are completely sober but usually quite tired and still basking in the love and clarity of your experience.

Some experience a headache, so taking a couple of aspirin can help.

u

What is an integration session?

A follow-up integration consultation to review the process with you can be purchased within a week of the experience.

Take a week before reaching out for your integration session, as insights continue to come up days and even weeks later.

During your integration session, we will discuss your experience and how you can work with your journey moving forward.

This session isn’t required, but most feel it is helpful to talk about the experience.

Integration sessions can be booked and purchased separately for $49.

u

Is macrodosing safe?

While physically safe, macrodosing can lead to intense emotional and psychological experiences. It’s crucial to prepare a safe, comfortable setting and have a trusted person present. That’s one of the most beneficial aspects of having a trusted guide to lead you through the experience.

Those with a history of mental health issues and cardiac or diabetic conditions should approach with caution. You will not be eating or taking medications for a few hours during the experience.

u

Can macrodosing lead to a bad trip?

Yes, it’s possible to experience a “bad trip,” which can include intense anxiety, fear, or unsettling hallucinations. Preparation, a supportive environment, and an experienced guide help mitigate these risks. Most importantly, mushrooms should be taken on purpose with intention and preparation.

u

What should I do if I have a bad trip?

Creating a calm environment, having someone to talk to, practicing breathwork, and reminding yourself that the experience is temporary can help navigate a difficult trip. Preparation and support are key to managing challenging experiences. Another reason to start early in the day is if you experience anxiety, telling yourself this is over by lunch is very helpful in getting back on track to a meaningful experience.

u

Are there therapeutic uses for macrodosing mushrooms?

Research into psilocybin therapy is exploring its potential to treat conditions like depression, PTSD, and anxiety. These studies suggest that, under supervised conditions, macrodosing can offer significant therapeutic benefits. However, I am not a licensed therapist and cannot claim to heal or cure any specific condition.

u

How often can I safely macrodose?

Due to the profound nature of the experience, it’s recommended to allow weeks or months between sessions for psychological integration. Frequent use can lead to a lack of time to process each experience.

u

Is there a risk of addiction?

Psilocybin mushrooms have a low potential for addiction. However, responsible use is crucial to prevent dependence and ensure the experience remains meaningful. You are absolutely exhausted after a journey. Rest is essential to rest after the journey and the next day if possible. This is a built-in anti-addiction mechanism by nature in my opinion.

u

How can I book a macrodose journey?

Please send me an email and we will schedule a time to talk!

Payment for services can be made via cash, check, PayPal, or Venmo

u

What is the normal cost of a macrodose journey or experience?

These experiences range greatly from practitioner to practitioner, and prices range from $500-$10,000 per experience.

More expensive does not always mean better outcomes.

I charge on the lower end of the spectrum because I am an herbalist who believes that herbal medicine is people’s medicine; it’s not just for the elite.

My pre-journey intention consult and guided journey is $350 a person.

Integration sessions can be booked and purchased separately for $49.
